We are excited to announce our third season of guest speakers at Goodell Gardens! Five local experts will share their specialized knowledge and skills related to a variety of nature-related topics. These sessions will feature informative presentations, engaging make-and-take demonstrations, and numerous opportunities to ask questions and connect with like-minded people. These programs will take place on selected Thursdays from 7 - 8:30 pm from June-September.

Here are the details for this session:

Title: Growing Oyster Mushrooms at Home & Basics of Indoor Mushroom Cultivation

Description: This workshop will focus on the easiest and most efficient ways to grow mushrooms inside with minimal equipment. We will demonstrate how to grow different colored oyster mushrooms on straw. Highlighted topics will include: spore vs culture, spawn runs, secondary substrates, the colonization period, the out-growing stage, and harvesting/composting. With its focus on growing edible fungi indoors, this program will complement the topic of outdoor cultivation and foraging. 

Speaker Bio: Eric Laughery is a self taught cultivator that has learned mostly through experience and failure. He has been growing mushrooms for almost 10 years and 6 years commercially for Full Moon Mushrooms.
