About This Event
Evan Palmer is a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator based in Brooklyn, New York. They are an improvising musician driven by a fascination with sound, group synergy, and visceral forms of expression. Drawing on their influences from Black American improvised music, European classical music, folk traditions, and metal, they have crafted a personal, physical and unrelenting style using both traditional and extended techniques, primarily on the double bass.
Palmer is an active presence in the improvised music communities of the Northeast US and beyond. They can be heard in the diverse contexts of solo bass concerts, free jazz ensembles, bass quartets, and grindcore shows. Their collaborators include Tony Malaby, Francisco Mela, Weasel Walter, Hilliard Greene, Ken Filiano, Marc Edwards, Steve Swell, and Stephen Gauci. They've brought their music to the Arts for Art InGardens Festival and many other venues and concert series, along with producing concerts of their own.
Palmer is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where they studied with John Lockwood and Bob Gullotti. They are a dedicated educator themselves, having taught numerous improvisation and jazz workshops and masterclasses for all ages.
