OPEN FEED x Infrasonic Series: Martin Freeman, Lihuen Sirvent, Kelly Armor & Allen Brown + mooneyes

OPEN FEED x Infrasonic Series features musical performances + live media art. The concert will be livestreamed by director Collin Bonner via LIVE FEED on Bandcamp. The performance will feature Martin Freeman, Lihuen Sirvent, Kelly Armor & Allen Brown, & mooneyes.

Martin Freeman a Buffalo, NY-based improviser, toolmaker and tinkerer working predominantly with sound and electronic circuits in the overlapping disciplines of instrument-building, installation, arts education and performance. His production practice concerns new ways of making music informed by deep investigations of electronic circuits and working methods that complicate the roles between performer, instrument and audience. As an educator he has taught art at SUNY at Buffalo and has led workshops in electronics at Eastman School of Music, Detroit School of Arts High School and Rhizome DC. He will perform on the Motorized Zither, an instrument of his own design.

María Lihuen Sirvent is an Argentinian composer and flutist currently based in Buffalo, New York. Humor, levity, and joy are common threads that bind her work beyond her different aesthetic and philosophical interests. She explores these feelings through explicit or insinuated means to trace in her identity the intersections of the collectivism of her Latin-American cultural background and her millennial mindset. In the last few years, she has been working on music with live electronics that generate interactions between sound and light (including video) employing feedback systems. This path includes the development and combination of different technologies (both digital and analog), as well as the rationale of the artistic practice and its communicative possibilities when visual elements are at play.

Kelly Armor is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, storyteller, teaching artist, and folklorist. For the past 25 years, she has worked intensively with Erie’s New American community, helping them preserve their culture and traditions in their new home, while also creating systems for the greater community to honor, celebrate and benefit from New American’s indigenous knowledge. Kelly will perform a set of flute music alongside Allen Brown, an Erie-based Native American flautist. Allen is a Seminole artist, and plays an instrument he made himself, decorated his with a turtle representing his mother’s Turtle Clan, and an arrowhead facing down, representing peace and a round motif representing the circle of life. They will be accompanied by visualist Mooneyes (Aaron Homerski). Mooneyes works in a variety of media, from digital imagery to handmade crochet objects. Mooneyes was the artist-in-residence at FEED’s gift shop in Spring 2024.

This summer, Ethan Hayden is Event Curator-in-Residence at FEED Media Art Center. Ethan is a musician + author based in America's Rust Belt. He is the author of Sigur Rós's ( ), published as part of Bloomsbury's 33⅓ series, and runs the independent record label, Infrasonic Press.

FEED + Ethan are merging the media art center's OPEN FEED series with the record label's Infrasonic Series for 4 summer concerts. Each welcomes experimental musicians from across the world, billed alongside Erie artists for intermedia events that feature a wide variety of work off the beaten path. Concerts are accompanied by workshops, mostly led by visiting artists, which deepen understanding of practices like hardware customization + free improvisation.
