This collection of improvisations is a synthesis of Wark’s background as an saxophonist and composer and his recent explorations in expanding his solo practice with electronic sound. The music explores the creation, manipulation, and destruction of pulse, and the tension between human spontaneity and the parameters created by machines. Wark improvises simply, creating loops and adding effects in time as he plays. The result is like a prism, taking his ideas and refracting them through a series of skips in time, until his improvised lines become distant echoes of themselves. Phrases loop, stretch, swell, intertwine, and dissipate, creating a sonic environment that exists parallel to, and in dialogue with, Wark’s saxophone playing.
